Union County doctors travel to Haiti, need supplies

Monroe internist Dr. Roy Blank and Waxhaw family physician Dr. Howard Guthmann will travel to Haiti Feb. 14-20, hosted by El Shaddai Ministries International, along with a team of area doctors and health care workers to help ­Haitian earthquake victims, Presbyterian Novant Medical Group has announced.

Blank, with Southern Piedmont Primary Care, and Guthmann, with Waxhaw Family Physicians & Sports Medicine, and the team will offer orthopedic care and treat infections, diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions. Physician’s assistant George Collins of OrthoCarolina organized the trip, which also includes eight Wingate University students in their second year of the physician’s assistant program.

The team needs cash and bulk medical supplies, including simple antibiotics, Tylenol, ibuprofen, Selsun Blue shampoo, sterile bandages and bandage tape.
