Greenway on track for 2011 construction start

Mount Holly’s long-planned riverside greenway will begin construction next year, if all goes well.

The Mount Holly Riverwalk, a scenic 13-mile route along the Catawba River between the Stowe YMCA and Mountain Island Lake, has been in the works for more than five years.

Schools moving to cut 880 positions

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is moving forward with a plan to cut more than 800 positions and eliminate middle school sports.
School staff is beginning to implement four levels of budget cuts that were presented to school board members last week, Superintendent Peter Gorman said during his weekly media briefing Wednesday, Sept 24.

Drugs, weapons seized in north Mecklenburg bust

Police confiscated some $13,000 in crack cocaine, $3,000 in ecstasy and nearly $17,000 in cash Tuesday, Feb. 16 at a home at 2100 Slater Road near Interstate 77.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report, officers also seized $1,600 in marijuana, three firearms worth a combined $300, ammunition, a bulletproof vest and surveillance equipment.
