Wynfield driver had marijuana in his system

HUNTERSVILLE – The driver in a wreck that killed a 26-year-old Huntersville woman and her 1-year-old daughter had marijuana in his system the day of the crash, police said.

Huntersville Police Capt. Michael Kee said Seth Smith, 28, tested positive for the drug after his Honda Accord smashed into a tree along Wynfield Creek Parkway Oct. 26.

Eight months after being released from prison, 29-year-old Jaunton Carter is facing new charges, stemming from a series of crimes committed in south Charlotte on Feb. 22.

On Feb. 27, detectives signed warrants against Carter, charging him with the hit and run, kidnapping, rape and multiple robberies that took place days earlier.

Officers hunt for Providence BB&T suspect

Thieves targeted the BB&T Bank at 4300 Providence Road on Feb. 26. The incident occurred just before noon, as a man in a tan sweater and tan scarf walked up to the teller, armed with a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect is described as a 5-foot-5 male, about 18 to 25 years old.

Police investigate Southbridge ­Forest death

Officers were called to a residence at 14300 Southbridge Forest Drive on Feb. 26 in response to a request for service. A 38-year-old resident of the house was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say no foul play is suspected at this time.

Rosecliff domestic disturbance leads to arrest

Officers were called out to a home at 4500 Rosecliff Drive, Feb. 27, after shots were fired. A male resident became intoxicated, pulled out a gun and shot rounds both outside and inside the house. The man’s wife called police after becoming concerned for her safety; she barricaded herself in a room in the house until officers arrived. No injuries were reported.
