CORNELIUS – Forty years ago, on Feb. 19, 1970, Marine Cpl. Dale Wilson was leading his squad through a rice paddy in the highlands of South Vietnam when he stepped on a landmine. The bomb “dropped him to the ground smoking from shrapnel and burns,” Disabled American Veterans magazine once wrote.

It also blew off his right arm, one of his legs just a few inches from his hip and the other leg below his knee.
